“Come Let us Sing Sing Sing….!”

Larking About!

We’re a congregation that loves music! We like to sing, and we welcome all music into our services–not just good old-fashioned hymns, but chants from many traditions, jazz, rock, gospel, folk, country, you name it. We want to become known as the place in Sonoma County for great music on Sunday morning.

Our accompanist is Will Johnson, an amazingly gifted pianist who plays three our of four (or four of five on those months) Sundays. It’s worth coming to UUP just to hear Will play, and he makes singing a joy. Watch for unexpected delights when he’s playing a hymn!

The UUP choir, Larking About (pictured above) has sung everything from the Indigo Girls to the Grateful Dead, from Thomas Morley to Randall Thompson, from bluegrass-based songs to Bobby McFerrin jazz, from Shape Note to the Beatles, and chants from Tibet, Africa, Eastern Europe, and the indigenous peoples of the Americas. We practice on Wednesday evenings, at the church, from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. New singers are always welcome!

We have a Folk Band, which is a loose aggregation of musicians of all stripes and levels who volunteer to form as-needed song-leading groups. Anyone who plays an instrument is welcome! We’ve led the congregation in singing songs like Nick Lowe’s “What’s So Funny About Peace, Love, and Understanding,” Joni Mitchell’s “Circle Game,” Kate Wolf’s “Give Yourself to Love,” Jackson Browne’s “Rock Me On the Water,” and Ralph McTell’s “Streets of London,” among others.
