In June of 2020, a UUP member said, “I am interested in forming a reading group to discuss books related to anti-racism.” From there, five of us started meeting twice a month not only to discuss anti-racism books but also to begin trying to examine “the water we swim in” — how our culture has shaped who we are as White people and whether those shapes actually fit with our inner values. Join several of the book club members as we explore the anti-racism work we are doing, how Unitarian Universalist principles guide our work and our goals, and how we are working toward “Beloved Community,” with all of its vulnerability, compassion, and joy.

He was inspired one day by the riot of spring around him, and he asked church members to each bring in a flower. Gathered together, the flowers remind us, “These flowers are like ourselves. Different colors and different shapes, and different sizes, each needing different kinds of care—but each beautiful, each important and special, in its own way.”

In the spirit of our living tradition, UUP has created an internet-based version of the ritual for this year’s ceremony. Please join us in exploring, “What do I bring across the threshold into UUP? What do I take with me from UUP back across the threshold into my daily life?”

If you can, please have two flowers in front you for the ceremony. If you don’t have actual flowers available, then drawings or pictures or other representations will be fine, or you can create a flower in your mind. We will also be showing flowers on the screen, submitted by UUP members, and you can use those for inspiration and ritual, too.
