When I was a Junior in high school, my church’s new minister arrived and helped me rediscover happiness and hope. We would become friends for life. He had great strengths and talents, with weaknesses to match. He weighed at least 300 pounds. He was an early leader in the gay rights movement. He would become a marijuana addict.
