Memorial Day sun
cannonballs fly through the sky
splash, splash, brrr! goosebumps!
I sit with the cat
rocking in the sun
we both purr
drip and splat
colors flow in wetness
surprise!
smoke and fire
the hoarde is gathering
dinner is ready
climbing up a tree
Ashley, Rosemary and me
settle in the green
new friends, old friends
worshipping together
under the trees
giggles gather
friendship forms
happiness
swarm of bees rising
fulsome nature exploding
new water heater
big night sky--ablaze!
necks craned back, we pause, stare
then find our way home
beautiful breakfast
fruit sparkling on countertops
save it--poems first!
joyous harmony
in a friendly circled song
thanks god we are friends
wind high in the trees
branches strewn across the trail
discovery calls
the candle burns as the wax drips
a heart of gold beats
I breathe in the calm air
sit by me right now
we have a moment to share
let’s laugh and rest easy
trees, grass, sky, hills
Unitarians
and books, books, books
sunlight and grey clouds
kids swim anyway
and parents hold their warm towels
a whirring hover
seemingly alive
hot water awaits the brave
washing the dishes
laughter flows through the window
o smile
green glasses, red wine
several empty bottle sit
sleep late tomorrow
details of group life
book set down, wet bathing suit
such sweetness is here
bees in sunlight glow
dance above their oak tree hive
crowd in the kitchen
warm sun cold breeze
where is my sweatshirt?
ahh snuggle snuggle
dishes stacked in soap
pans await the washer’s hand
it is all worship
children laughing, happy
sharp sticks in a hot fire
it must be s’mores
solitary bat
soaring on the evening air
wings like scattered leaves
oooeee gooeee goo
marshmallows like taffy pulled
thanks Jamie and Mollie
T says
write another one--
No!
many voices sing
in layers of chanting rounds
hear the final word
sweater fleece and tea:
the UU survival kit!
cool morning, warm place
sky bluer than blue
insects clicking in the trees
peaceful afternoon
chicken marbella
approaches goddess divine
elixir of UU
golden dragon fly
flutter by of black cream gold
remember this day
reaching to the sky
filigree of drifting leaves
branches dripping green
red wine
dark chocolate
life’s good!
safe beautiful place
adventure, surprise
a gift of childhood
shade chilled shoulders
warm sun soaks in--
comforting
hors d’oeuvres gobbled up
red wine flows quickly
we have reached the happy hour
big black deer tick crawls
lightly on my pants
but nothing will hurt me here
o my friend a porch
conversations ease
cool sunlight, warm breeze--happy
counting syllables
friends sit and laugh together
so absurd and fun
fierce water gun fight
bright arc splashes wet against skin
screams of young joy
music
the heart is refreshed
it is magic
I have seen acts now
marbella, wine and stew
leaves one dreaming new
the piano players mood
song flowing to song
improvised? Composed? Who knows?
tea pot slowly steams
we stand before it with cups
creating friendship
in bush’s shadow
the view of trees, stones and sun
a nap on the ground
hiking--up--breathless
fallen trees, waterfalls, creeks
good grief, are we lost?
sun risks
eyes open wide
bird sings
reading on the porch
watching people walking by
smiling to themselves
at the break of day
gathering around a stone
sharing sacred words
the marshmallow girls
make play-doh of their dessert
then pop it in their mouths
down the chasm breaks
it’s treacherous but narrow
easy step over
beautiful but not handsome
does Eleanor speak?
Cindy Sheehan’s quiet voice
spring-fed brook babbles
water heater hornet wails
round singers focus
standing stone circle
manzanita and madrone
make a sacred bowl
the goddess is here
we sit around the candle
love burns bright
T is a south paw
Mollie’s sister is one too
most eccentrics are!
bellies full of food
satisfaction over all
the cook smacks his lips
the morning is colder
the community is rich
in what really counts
climbing in a tree
and I saw something white
a deer skull below
old Telesphorous
sits in a warm lap and purrs
he knows this is home
she takes the shell
rubs it in silence gently
our eyes hold her
we sit and talk
on a sunny step taking
Holy Communion
we sit down eating
breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner
and then we eat s’mores
